Japan has an immensely rich variety of crafts. Indeed, with the social custom of brings gifts back when travelling, it is very nearly a culture imperative that every area have its own local crafts.

Traditional Japanese Craft Page

Houshi Museum
From Houshi at the Awazu Onsen in the Hokuriku region of Japan (the
oldest inn in the world, according to the Guinness Book of World Records)
comes this quick look into the crafts of the
Hokuriku region. It includes swordmaking, lacquerware, pottery and
dyeing.

MINGEI
The Japan Folk Crafts Museum, Tokyo organized a tour in
the USA of folk crafts from Mingeikan. This web page shows some of the
collection included in the tour when it was at the Peabody Essex Museum.
